QR Codes Get a Makeover

Home | Blog | Get a Makeover

As QR codes gain popularity and we see them used more and more, we are also noticing a variety of interesting design variations on the run of the mill black and white boxes.

We won’t go too far into the techie details but it’s basically possible because of the fact that up to 30% of a QR code’s data can be missing or obstructed, and still be scanned. Building in the 30% error correction rate means that logos or other imagery can be inserted without rendering it un-scannable.

Patrick Donnelly, QR code designer and expert, told tech site Mashable: “Designer QR codes are not only a way to make your 2D barcode stand out, but they also add a more human element to the otherwise cold and techie appearance. This could be the difference between someone scanning your code or not.”
